From behind the clouds

 From Behind The Clouds

- Ishana Ghosh

They scattered clouds tried to hide the moon.
Yet, its golden lustre shone through.
And with the moon's light as his only guide,
the solitary man made his way
through the desert that spread out endlessly,
expecting to find what he was looking for,
waiting for him, at the end of the journey.
Desperation etched on his face,
loneliness his only company
but he wouldn't complain or ask for more
'cause after all, it was he.
It was he who had pushed away every being
that ever tried to care for him.
It was he who had yearned for solitude,
it was he who had never belonged anywhere
in the wretched society.
So why cry now?
Maybe, he'll truly get what he wants
when the journey is over,
maybe there'll be something
that's gonna make him happy, once again.
Maybe, he'll come to know whether he belongs, at all.
Or maybe, none of that's gonna happen.
But even so, loneliness seems so much better
that being burdened with all the negativity.

But there was a question that was bugging the moon,
' Is the darkness all that he can see?
Maybe I'm not the sun, who burns so brightly
that he sets ablaze all that he touches
but still, I am the moon. I am ME.
Is the little light that I offer
so insignificant that he won't even look at me?
Is my light of no worth at all, to him?'
And maybe, the overflowing emotions of the moon
is what made him catch a glimpse of her
and suddenly, he saw, that he
was no more the solitary man,
he was no more all by himself.
There were people around
who were smiling at him, so broadly
that he couldn't help but smile too,
and finally realise that there were
these people that cared,
there were those who'd never leave his side
and belonging with them was all he needed.
It'd be enough for him to keep on living.
And it is not like the darkness disappeared
because it most certainly did  not.
But the little light that cast the shadow,
made embracing the darkness, worth it.

And thus, he saw
that going on ahead, all by himself,
wasn't the only option anymore,
and he didn't have to be lonely,
if he didn't want to be.
