Adieu, Dear Second Home, Adieu

Adieu, Dear Second Home, Adieu

-Ishana Ghosh

Yes. Today's the day...
When the crackers will crackle
and the bombs will explode.
For the mere fun of light and sound,
We will pollute our heavenly abode.

Yes. Today's the day...
When we will wish one another
to have a Diwali which is happy
But what of actually wanting to say
'Tomorrow meeting you at school's gonna make me zippy'

But NO...
We know that's not gonna be
a reality anymore.
So, why take the trouble of saying
something, that's already a closed door.

Yes. Today's the day...
When our mothers will ask us to
shut ourselves from the noise and study
But how in the world are we going to shut
The noise of the heart which we can't share with anybody.

Yes. Today's the day...
When the noise of the crackers bursting outside
will be suppressed by the inner screams,
Of wanting to go to school
and fulfilling the unfulfilled dreams.

Yes. Today's the day...
When you'll miss your best friend real bad
and will want to start it all over again.
There will be 11 years of nostalgia flooding in
and you'll find yourself, sending rivers through the cheek lane.

Yes. Today's the day...
When you'll pray to God to rewind time
Because your school 'LIFE' was not supposed to end like this.
But as time will flow on,
you'll find yourself staring blankly at the text book, without any bliss.

Yes. Today's the day...
Yes, today's the day
you'll finally realize that life's unfair.
You will be depressed, heartbroken, crestfallen
It will only be luck if you get someone with whom these you can share.

Yes. Today's the day...
When you need to let go
and you must learn to move on
You can learn from time
which always moves on and on...

'Yes, Today's the day...'
You need to remember this
'cause you can't expect anything from tomorrow.
It will only be luck
if you get someone to fill the hollow...

YES. TODAY'S THE DAY...

P.S. : Just a few days after our school life was over, there was Diwali. With broken hearts, we had to spend our days in our room when we could have been with our friends at school. This is the history of this poem. I thought suddenly Diwali 's mention might trifle the readers. That is why...
